Guárico

State in north-central Venezuela, bordering the River Orinoco; area 66,664 sq km/25,739 sq mi; population (1996) 583,221. The state capital is San Juan de los Morros. Guárico forms part of the llanos (a plains region noted for its cattle ranching). Coffee, cotton, and coal are produced in the north of the state. 30% of Venezuelan oil is extracted from the south of the state.
