Guest, Edgar Albert (1881–1959)

US journalist and poet. From 1900 he wrote ‘Breakfast Table Chat’ for the Detroit Free Press. The column combined light verse and folksy wisdom and was later nationally syndicated. Guest's best-selling collections of verse include A Heap o' Livin' (1916) and Harbor Lights of Home (1928).

Born in Birmingham, England, Guest came to America in 1891 with his parents, settling in Detroit, Michigan, leaving school at an early age. From 1938 to 1942 he was the host of a popular weekly radio program.
