Vélez de Guevara, Luis (1578–1645)

Spanish dramatist and novelist. His fantastic novel El diablo cojuelo/The Crippled Devil 1641 is the basis of Alain-René Le Sage's Le Diable boîteux/The Devil upon Two Sticks 1707.

His numerous plays, in the style of Lope de Vega, include Más pesa el rey que la sangre 1700, and La luna de la sierra 1652.
