Guglielmi, Pietro Alessandro (1728-1804)

Italian composer. He produced his first opera in Naples in 1757, and thereafter had great success throughout Italy and abroad. He was in England intermittently 1767-72, and also visited Brunswick and Dresden, Germany. In 1793 he was appointed maestro di cappella at St Peter's, Rome.

He studied under Francesco Durante in Naples.

about 100, including Il ratto della sposa (1765), La sposa fedele (1767), La villanella ingentilita (1779), I finti amori, La virtuosa di Mergellina (1785), L'inganno amoroso, La pastorella nobile, and La bella pescatrice (1789).
