Martin is a former principal bassist with the London Symphony Orchestra, professor at London's Guildhall School of Music and noted maker of double basses. He trained at London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he once - pinch hitting for the regular instructor - helped fellow Guildhall alum Joseph Fiennes polish an audition piece. Originally a music scholar, Newman's training took her from London's Guildhall School of Music, via the Slade, to Hamburg, where a 1995 scholarship from the German government enabled her to study with Marina Abramovic - escaping the UK's theater-dominated tradition to immerse herself in the context of European avant-garde performance. |
