Guimard, Hector Germain

    0.10 sec.

Guimard, Hector Germain (1867–1942)

French architect. He was a leading exponent of the art nouveau style in France. His flamboyant designs of glazed canopies for a number of Paris Métro station exteriors are one of art nouveau's most enduring images.

In another of his projects, the Castel Béranger apartment block, Paris, 1894–98, he emphasized the importance of detail by designing each apartment to a different plan. Within the building, the art nouveau style is apparent on everything from stonework to door handles.
