Guinizelli, Guido (c. 1230–1276)| Italian poet. Only a handful of canzoni and sonnets by him are in existence, the best known being the canzone ‘Al cor gentil ripara sempre amore’, generally viewed as the manifesto of the dolce stil nuovo (sweet new style). |
| Born in Bologna, in 1274 he was exiled as one of the Ghibelline Lambertazzi party (see Guelph and Ghibelline), and died in exile. |
