Guitry, Sacha

Guitry, Sacha (1885-1957)

French dramatist, actor, and film director. He wrote over 100 pieces, mostly witty comedies, including Nono (1905), and acted in most of them. In 1919 he became the manager of his own theatre in Paris. His films include Le Roman d'un tricheur (1936) and Les Perles de la couronne (1937).

Other comedies or tragicomedies include Deburau (1918) and Le Grand Duc/The Grand Duke (1921). Jacqueline (1921) and Le Nouveau Testament/Where There's a Will (1934) are serious plays; he did not act in these.
