Gulda, Friedrich (1930– )

Austrian pianist. He studied with Bruno Seidlhofer, winning first prize in the Geneva International Pianists' Competition in 1946. He toured Europe in 1947–48, and made his US debut in 1950. Outside the classical repertory he is also well known as a jazz pianist; from 1962 he has given jazz and improvised music concerts.
