Guleghina, Maria (1959- )

Russian soprano. She studied in Odessa and sang with the Minsk Opera from 1984. She appeared at La Scala, Milan, in 1987, as Amelia in Ballo in Maschera. She was very successful in such dramatic roles as Maddalena (which she sang at the New York Metropolitan Opera House in 1990), Lisa (with the Kirov Opera and in San Francisco), Tosca, Odabella, and Santuzza. She was appointed resident singer in Hamburg in 1990.
