William of Newburgh (1136–c. 1198)

English historian, who wrote his Historia Rerum Anglicarum/History of English Affairs towards the end of the 12th century. This chronicle, one of the best sources of knowledge about England at this time, covers the years from the Norman Conquest up to 1198. William spent his life as a monk at the Augustinian priory at Newburgh in Yorkshire.
