gully

Long, narrow, steep-sided valley with a flat floor. Gullies are formed by water erosion and are more common in unconsolidated rock and soils that are easily eroded. They may be formed very rapidly during periods of heavy rainfall and are common in arid areas that have periods of heavy rain. Gully formation in more temperate areas is common where the vegetation cover has been destroyed or reduced, for example as a result of fire or agricultural clearance.
