Gumbel, Bryant (Charles) (1948- )

US television sports commentator and anchorman. He was the editor of Black Sports magazine after leaving college, and worked as sportscaster for KNBC radio station in Los Angeles, California (1972-80). He also covered professional sports for the National Broadcasting Company (NBC), winning an Emmy for his 1976 Olympic coverage. Hired by the Today show in 1980 to do sports commentary, he became coanchor in 1981. Gumbel was born in New Orleans, Louisiana;
