Gungl, Jozsef (or Joseph) (1810-1889)

Austro-Hungarian conductor and composer. He became director of music to the king of Prussia in 1849, and to the emperor of Austria in 1858. He composed numerous popular marches and dances, of which the Amoretten Waltz was perhaps the most popular.

He was a bandmaster in the Austrian Army 1835-43. In 1843 he established an orchestra, with which he toured in Europe and America.
