sage grouse

Large grouse Centrocercus urophasianus that inhabits the sage-districts of the western USA. It has soft, dense plumage, is mottled yellowish-brown in colour, with a long, 20-feathered tail. At each side of the male's neck is an inflatable air sac, distended during the mating season.
