guppy

Brightly coloured fish Poecilia reticulata, with an elongated body and round tail fin, measuring about 6 cm/2.25 in in length. It occurs naturally in fresh and brackish water in parts of South America and the West Indies. Guppies have also been introduced into many other tropical areas as a natural pest control because they feed on mosquito and other insect larvae. The guppy gives birth to live young, and is a popular aquarium species.
