Gurney, Edmund (1846-1888)

English psychologist. He founded the Society of Psychical Research with particular interests in thought transference, hallucinations, and hypnotism.

He was born in Surrey, and graduated in classics at Cambridge University (1871). He later began studies in medicine and law, which he abandoned, becoming interested in spiritualism.
