Hába, Karel (1898-1972)

Czech violinist and composer, and the brother of Alois Hába. He studied violin under Karel Hoffmann, composition under Křička, Foerster and Novák, and quarter-tone music with his brother. He played viola in the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra 1929-36 and in 1949 became head of the education section of Czech Radio.

Works

opera Jáno̊ik (1934); two symphonies (1947-54), violin and cello concertos; four string quartets (1922-69), septet; piano music; songs.
