Hölle, Matthias (1951- )

German bass. He was a member of the Cologne Opera 1976-87, and appeared at the Ludwigsburg Festival in 1978, as the Commendatore. He sang at the Bayreuth Festival from 1981 as Fasolt, Hunding, and King Marke, and in Milan in 1981 and 1984 in the premieres of Stockhausen's Donnerstag/Thursday and Samstag/Saturday from Licht/Light. In 1986 he sang at the New York Metropolitan Opera House in Fidelio. His other roles include Henri VIII in Anna Bolena, Basilio, and Gremin. He made his debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, in 1994, as Hunding in Die Walküre/The Valkyrie.
