H2-receptor antagonist

Any of a group of drugs that lock on to histamine receptors in the lining of the stomach. This blocks the action of histamine in stimulating the secretion of gastric acid. It represents a new approach to the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers. Side effects are uncommon. H2-receptor antagonists are also used to treat Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
