Habeneck, François Antoine

Habeneck, François Antoine (1781-1849)

French violinist and conductor. He was the founder of the Société des Concerts du Conservatoire in Paris, conductor at the Opéra 1824-47, and gave the first performances of Guillaume Tell, Les Huguenots, La Juive, and Benvenuto Cellini. He was the first conductor to cultivate Beethoven's music in France.

He was a pupil of Pierre Baillot.
