Hachinohe

City in Aomori prefecture, northern Japan, situated on the Pacific coast; population (2005) 244,700. One of the leading deep-sea fishing ports in Japan, with mackerel and cuttlefish being particularly important, Hachinohe's main industries include marine products and processing, and also chemicals, paper, cement, and steel production.
