Haddonfield

Borough in Camden County, southwestern New Jersey, 8 km/5 mi southeast of Camden; population (1990) 11,600. The area was settled in 1682, and the town was founded in around 1710 by the English Quaker Elizabeth Haddon.

Haddonfield was the site of a number of Revolutionary War clashes, and a camp for British and Hessian forces. Essentially a residential suburb of Camden and Philadelphia, it also has some corporate office parks. Historically noteworthy is the Indian King Tavern (1750), meeting place of the first state legislature (1777).
