Sinan (1489-1588)

Ottoman architect. He was chief architect to Suleiman the Magnificent from 1538. Among the hundreds of buildings he designed are the Suleimaniye mosque complex in Istanbul 1551-58 and the Selimiye mosque in Adrinople (now Edirne) 1569-74.
