Haenchen, Hartmut (1943– )

German conductor. He studied in Dresden and conducted the Halle Symphony Orchestra 1966–72 and the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra 1973–76; he is a permanent guest conductor of the Dresden Staatsoper. He was musical director of the Netherlands Opera from 1985 with Die Frau ohne Schatten, the Berlioz Faust, and Samson et Dalila in 1992. He has conducted opera as a guest conductor in Berlin (Komische Oper), Munich, Warsaw, Geneva, and the USA. He appeared at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, 1991–92, with Orfeo ed Euridice and Mozart's Mitridate.
