Hagegård, Håkan (1945– )

Swedish baritone. He studied in Stockholm and with Tito Gobbi and Gerald Moore. He made his debut in Stockholm in 1968, as Papageno, and later sang the role in Bergman's film version of Die Zauberflöte/The Magic Flute. He has appeared at Drottningholm since 1970 and at Glyndebourne from 1973 (as the Count in Figaro and Capriccio, and as Guglielmo). He made concert tours of the USA in 1975 and 1977, and his New York Metropolitan Opera House debut was in 1979, as Malatesta. He made his debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, as Wolfram in 1987. In 1991 he created Beaumarchais in The Ghosts of Versailles at the New York Metropolitan Opera House. He is well known in operas by Mozart, Verdi, and Rossini, and often appears in concert.
