Haggin, James Ben Ali

Haggin, James Ben Ali (1827–1914)

US lawyer and businessman. He studied law in his father's office and was admitted to the bar in 1845. Emigrating west in 1850, he opened (with Lloyd Tevis) a Sacramento law office that over the following decades became one of the chief financial powers of California. His interests included mining and agricultural development. His Kentucky horse farm produced a series of champion racers in the 1880s. Haggin was born in Harrodsburg, Kentucky
