Haimovitz, Matt (1970– )

Israeli cellist. He studied at Juilliard and made his concert debut with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under Mehta in Tel-Aviv in 1985. His London debut was with the English Chamber Orchestra under Barenboim in 1985, and his Chicago Symphony Orchestra debut was under Levine in 1988; his first US recital tour was in 1990. He made his debut with the Berlin Philharmonic in 1990, toured Australia in 1991, and played in concert with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra in 1992. His recordings include concertos by Lalo, Haydn, and Saint-Saëns, and he also plays modern works by Ligeti and Crumb.
