Haines City

City in Polk County, central Florida, 29 km/18 mi east-northeast of Lakeland; population (1990) 11,700. Haines City lies at the heart of a citrus-producing belt, and a major economic activity is processing and shipping fruit.

Settled in the 1870s in an area containing many lakes, Haines City has various vacation accommodations. Fertilizers, pipe castings, and electronic components are manufactured here.
