Haiphong

Industrial port in North Vietnam; third-largest city in Vietnam (after Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi); population (1995 est) 1,617,000. Among its industries are shipbuilding and the making of cement, plastics, phosphates, and textiles. There is a rail link to Kunming in China.
