wombatAny of a family (Vombatidae) of burrowing, herbivorous marsupials, native to Tasmania and southern Australia. They are about 1 m/3.3 ft long, heavy, with a big head, short legs and tail, and coarse fur. The two living species include the common wombat Vombatus ursinus of Tasmania and southeastern Australia, and Lasiorhirnus latifrons, the plains wombat of southern Australia.
