Haise, Fred Wallace, Jr

Haise, Fred Wallace, Jr (1933– )

US astronaut. He was aboard the Apollo 13 flight to the Moon that had to abort its mission when an oxygen tank exploded. In 1977 he commanded the space shuttle Enterprise during test flights on the back of a Boeing 747 aircraft. Haise was assigned to NASA as a research pilot in 1962 before being selected as an astronaut in 1966. He left NASA in 1979.
