Hakluyt, Richard (c. 1552-1616)English geographer whose chief work is The Principal Navigations, Voyages and Discoveries of the English Nation (1598-1600). He was assisted by Sir Walter Raleigh. He lectured on cartography at Oxford, became geographical adviser to the East India Company, and was an original member of the Virginia Company. |
