Half Moon Bay

Crescent-shaped inlet of the Pacific Ocean in San Mateo County, north-central California, 29 km/18 mi southwest of San Francisco.

Pillar Point marks the northern end of Half Moon Bay. The resort and growing residential city of Half Moon Bay (population 1990, 8,900) has developed on one of its many beaches. Fishing and the growing and canning of artichokes are important in the region.
