Halffter, Rodolfo (1900-1987)

Spanish composer, and the brother of Ernesto Halffter. He was self-taught in composition and began to write music in 1924. In 1939 he left Spain and settled in Mexico, having fled after the fall of the Republic and lost some of his works in an air-raid during his escape to France on foot. He was director of the music department of the National Institute of Fine Arts in Mexico City 1959-64.

Works

ballets Don Lindo de Almeria (1935, produced 1940) and The Baker's Morning; Obertura concertante for piano and orchestra, violin concerto (1940); Tripartita (1960) and Alborado (1976) for orchestra; piano pieces.
