Haliartus

Ancient town in Boeotia, central Greece, situated on a hill overlooking Lake Copais. The town was burned by the Persians 480 BC, but was later rebuilt. The Spartan general Lysander was killed at Haliartus 395 BC. The town was finally destroyed 171 BC by the Romans.
