Halifax County

Administrative district of southern Virginia, on the North Carolina border (south) and the Roanoke (Staunton) River (east); area 2,113 sq km/816 sq mi, population (1990) 29,000. Its seat is at Halifax, while South Boston, on the Dan River, is its largest community. Rural Halifax County is a major producer of tobacco, as well as of corn and wheat.
