Halka

Opera by Stanisław Moniuszko (libretto, in Polish, by W Wolski, based on a story by K W Wójcicki), first performed as a concert in Wilno on 11 January 1848 and first produced as an opera in Wilno on 28 February 1854; a revised version was performed in Warsaw, Poland, on 1 January 1858. The Polish national opera, Wallek-Walewski's opera Jontek's Revenge, is a sequel to it. In the story, Halka commits suicide after she is seduced and abandoned by the nobleman Janusz.
