Hall, J(oyce) C(lyde) (1891-1982)

US greeting card manufacturer. A teenage entrepreneur, he was soon selling his ‘Hallmark’ brand greeting cards nationwide from his Kansas City headquarters. Hallmark pioneered independent display racks, special occasion cards, and decorative gift wrap, and by 1953 was the largest greeting card company in the world. With a reputation for running one of the firms in the USA most favourable to employees, he retired as Hallmark's president and CEO in 1966. Hall was born in David City, Nebraska.
