First aired in 1972 soon after her turn in Cabaret, which would win her an Oscar, but never seen since the early '70s, this "concert for television" was a harmonic convergence of Bob Fosse, John Kander, Fred Ebb, Halston, and quadruple threat Liza Minnelli. Translating this particular title from print to audio has its tradeoffs--the author's direct address to "the reader" changes to the bumpier "the listener," and the three blank pages in the middle of the printed book (wherein the author pauses to have a piece of cake) becomes a rather awkward period of silence--but Halston handles all difficulties with aplomb. Founded by designer Roy Halston Frowick in the 1970s, the company was purchased in 1999 by New York-based private-label manufacturer Neema Clothing Ltd. |
