sacred baboon

Medium-sized baboon Papio hamadryas that was once sacred in Egypt but has since become extinct there owing to competition for land. It occurs in troops of up to 500. It is still found in Ethiopia on dry savannah where there are rocky cliffs and hillsides, but is threatened by habitat changes and perhaps also hunting.
