Hamamatsu

Industrial city of Shizuoka prefecture, Chubu region, central Honshu island, Japan, 85 km/53 mi southeast of Nagoya on the Pacific coast; population (2005) 804,000. Manufactured goods include textiles, chemicals, musical instruments, and motorcycles. Nearby Lake Hamana produces edible seaweed (nori).
