Hamburg, David Alan

Hamburg, David Alan (1925– )

US psychiatrist and educator. He was professor and chairman of the department of psychiatry and behavioural sciences at Stanford University (1961–72), and a member of many policy advisory boards. He conducted research in the areas of psychological stress and endocrine function; adaptive behaviour under stress; psychotherapy in crisis; and the genetic basis of behaviour. Hamburg was born in Evansville, Indiana.
