The caraway is a member of the parsley family and closely related to fennel and dill. It grows up to 60 cm/2 ft high and is cultivated in many parts of Europe and the USA. Caraway seeds are small, oval, and ribbed.

The hardy biennial parsley has been cultivated for so long that its origin is uncertain. It may have originated in southeast Europe. The mild-flavoured leaves and seeds are widely used as a herb in cooking.

Herb belonging to the carrot family, cultivated for flavouring and garnishing in cookery and for its nutrient value, being rich in vitamin C and minerals. It can grow up to 45 cm/1.5 ft high and has aromatic, curled or flat pinnate leaves (leaflets either side of the stem) and delicate open clusters of yellow flowers. It is a biennial plant. (Petroselinum crispum, family Umbelliferae.)

Visitors can buy seasonal "heritage" vegetables such as Hamburg parsley, leeks, unusual radish, kale and Swiss chard plus bags of rare "hedgerow" fruits with recipes attached.
Other attractions at the event in Allesley Park walled garden next Saturday include samples of unusual vegetables such as a 400-year-old variety of asparagus peas, and Hamburg parsley, introduced in the 1720s.
Gems include Burpee's golden beetroot, early horn carrot, white Belgian carrots, Hamburg parsley, red top Norfork turnips and various old varieties of cabbage.
