Hamilton, Lewis Carl Davidson (1985– )

British racing driver, who made Formula 1 history by finishing on the podium in each of his first nine races. He became the first black driver to compete in Formula 1 when he was given the vacant seat at McLaren for the 2007 season. After finishing third on his Formula 1 debut at the Australian Grand Prix, he placed second in the next four races before winning both the Canadian and US Grands Prix. After setting numerous records as a rookie, he finished second by a single point in the 2007 drivers' championship.

At the age of nine, he told McLaren team owner Ron Dennis that he would drive for his team one day. Four years later, Hamilton signed a contract with McLaren's driver development support programme which included an option of a future Formula 1 seat. He got his first racing kart at the age of six and was European karting champion in 2000. Transferring his ability to race cars, he won the 2003 British Formula Renault series, the 2005 Formula 3 Euroseries and the 2006 GP2 Series.
