Hammond, John Lawrence Le Breton

Hammond, John Lawrence Le Breton (1872-1949)

English journalist and author. He was successively editor of the Speaker and a leader-writer on the Tribune, the Daily News, and the Manchester Guardian. His works on industrial history include The Village Labourer (1911), The Town Labourer (1917), The Rise of Modern Industry (1925), and The Age of the Chartists (1930).

He was educated at Bradford Grammar School and St John's College, Oxford. He also wrote biographies, including Gladstone and the Irish Nation (1938), and a life of C P Scott in 1934.
