Hammond, Robert (1621-1654)

English soldier. He was colonel of a regiment of foot in the New Model Army. In the struggle between the army and the Parliament in 1647, Hammond supported the former. He was appointed governor of the Isle of Wight, where King Charles I was held in custody 1647-48.
