Hammonton

Town in Atlantic County, southeastern New Jersey, 43 km/27 mi southeast of Camden; population (1990) 12,200. It was settled in the mid-1800s.

Hammonton is a market and shipping centre for local fruits and vegetables, and has canning and clothing industries. There is an annual blueberry festival. Wharton State Forest, in the Pine Barrens, which covers 441 sq km/170 sq mi, is situated to the northeast of the town.
