Hampstead

District in the Greater London borough of Camden. It is the site of Primrose Hill, Hampstead Heath, and Parliament Hill (on which Boudicca is said to have been buried in a barrow); Hampstead Garden suburb was begun in 1907. Notable buildings include Kenwood (about 1616, remodelled by Robert Adam in 1764), containing the Iveagh Bequest of paintings; Fenton House (1693), with a large collection of early keyboard instruments; and Keats House (1815–16), home of the poet John Keats, now a museum. John Constable is buried in the churchyard. Many famous people lived here, including Martin Frobisher, John Galsworthy, Edward Elgar, Ramsay Macdonald, and Anna Pavlova.

City in Montréal Urban Community, southern Québec; population (1991) 8,600. Hampstead is a predominantly anglophone residential community that lies just west of Westmount and 6 km/4 mi west-southwest of the city centre.
