Hanford

City and seat of Kings County, in south-central California, 48 km/30 mi south of Fresno; population (2000) 41,700.

Hanford is a trade and shipping centre for the southern San Joaquin Valley, where grain, fruit, cotton, livestock, and dairy goods are produced; it also has food processing and oil refining industries. First settled in 1871, the city is known for its Courthouse Square and as the site of a once-thriving Chinatown.
